Football: Morocco beat Gabon in the AFCON 2027 Qualifiers
Our national football team opened its AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Gabon on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
Noussair MAZRAOUI opened the scoring in the 36th minute, before Soufiane RAHIMI added a second in the 84th minute, securing Morocco’s first three points of the qualifying campaign.
The victory also coincides with further progress for Morocco on the international stage. Sixth in the latest official FIFA World Ranking, Morocco has provisionally moved up to fifth place in the world, ahead of Brazil.
This position sees Morocco equal the highest-ever FIFA ranking achieved by an African national team, previously reached by Nigeria in 1994.
Our national team will continue its qualifying campaign against Lesotho on Tuesday, 29 September 2026 at 1:00 p.m., at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in the second round of qualifiers.
