Mediterranean Beach Games Portimão-Lagoa 2027: “Repsol Lighthouse Journey by BMW” stops in Tangier
The Moroccan National Olympic Committee (MNOC) welcomed a delegation from the Portuguese Olympic Committee in Tangier on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, as part of the Moroccan leg of the “Repsol Lighthouse Journey by BMW”, an initiative leading up to the Mediterranean Beach Games Portimão-Lagoa 2027.
Organised by the Portuguese Olympic Committee, Repsol Portugal and BMW Portugal, with the support of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games, the initiative runs from 3 to 18 September 2026. It symbolically connects the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 with the Mediterranean Beach Games Portimão-Lagoa 2027 through a journey combining land and sea routes across the Mediterranean.
The Moroccan leg, held in Tangier on 14 and 15 September, included a stop at Cape Spartel and was marked by the symbolic handover of the Mediterranean Beach Games Portimão-Lagoa 2027 flag to Mr Majd CHEKROUN, Director of International Relations and Communication at the MNOC.
The Portuguese delegation included Mr Pedro FARROMBA, Executive Director of the Portuguese Olympic Committee and Executive Committee member of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games, Mr Pedro SEQUEIRA RIBEIRO, Commercial and Marketing Director, as well as Carolina JOÃO, Olympic sailing athlete.
Through this journey between Europe and Africa, the initiative highlights the continuity between successive editions of the Mediterranean Games. The light of the lighthouses serves as the symbolic thread of the journey from Taranto to Portimão-Lagoa, where it will conclude on 18 September 2026.
