Arab Cross-Country Championship: Morocco Wins 22 Medals in Mosul
Morocco delivered an outstanding performance at the 28th Arab Cross-Country Championship, held on 24 January 2026 in Mosul, Iraq, securing an impressive total of 22 medals (12 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze) and finishing first in most team standings.
Moroccan athletes dominated all age categories (seniors, juniors and cadets) in both men’s and women’s competitions. In the individual races, Morocco claimed nearly all podium places, achieving several one-two and one-two-three finishes, particularly in the senior 10 km, junior 8 km and cadet 6 km events.
In the team rankings, the Moroccan national team confirmed its collective strength by finishing first in both the senior men’s and women’s categories, with 10 points in each, ahead of Iraq. This dominance extended to the other categories, where Morocco also topped the standings in junior men’s and women’s events, as well as in cadet boys’ and girls’ competitions, with clear margins over their closest rivals.
In the junior categories, Morocco won the team title with 12 points in the boys’ race and 10 points in the girls’ race, ahead of Algeria and Tunisia. In the cadet categories, Morocco finished first with 16 points in the boys’ race, while the national team also topped the girls’ ranking with 10 points.
The championship brought together 111 athletes representing eight Arab countries, under the auspices of the Arab Athletics Union. The participating nations were Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen.
With more than 90% of the titles won, Morocco reaffirmed its dominance in Arab cross-country and the strength of its development model, built on continuity between elite athletes and emerging generations.
