Taranto 2026: Amina DEHHAOUI Claims Silver and Opens Morocco’s Medal Account
Moroccan taekwondo athlete Amina DEHHAOUI claimed silver in the women’s -57 kg event at the 20th Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 on Saturday, 22 August, earning Morocco its first medal of the Games.
DEHHAOUI began her campaign in the quarter-finals against Portugal’s Ana ADREGO, securing a convincing 2-0 victory in rounds to advance to the semi-finals.
She then faced Tunisia’s Chaima TOUMI for a place in the final and produced another strong performance, winning 2-0 in rounds to book her place in the gold-medal bout.
In the final, Amina DEHHAOUI faced Türkiye’s Hatice Kubra ILGUN. After a closely contested bout, the Moroccan claimed the silver medal, while her opponent secured the Mediterranean title following an unfortunate turn of events that led to our champion’s disqualification.
With two victories on her way to the final, Amina DEHHAOUI opened Morocco’s medal account at Taranto 2026, securing the national delegation’s first podium finish on the opening day of competition.
