The Moroccan U20 national team has written a new chapter in the history of national football by winning the FIFA U20 World Cup on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Santiago, Chile. The Atlas Cubs triumphed 2–0 over Argentina, claiming the first world title in their history in this category.

Both Moroccan goals were scored by Yassir Zabiri, the tournament’s breakout star, who netted a decisive brace in the 12th and 29th minutes. Thanks to his outstanding performance, the young forward was named the tournament’s top scorer.

Under the guidance of head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, the Atlas Cubs displayed disciplined teamwork, solid defense, and great attacking efficiency. This victory crowns an exemplary journey throughout the tournament.

In the group stage, Morocco impressed by defeating two global football powerhouses, Spain (2–1) and Brazil (1–0), before finishing with a draw against Japan. In the Round of 16, the young Moroccans eliminated South Korea (3–1), then overcame the United States (1–0) in the quarterfinals. The semifinal against France lived up to expectations: after a 1–1draw, Morocco advanced to the final following a well-managed 5–4 penalty shootout victory.

The final against Argentina confirmed the tactical and mental maturity of this golden generation. The Moroccan players managed to withstand the opponent’s pressure, dictate the tempo, and capitalize on their chances, showcasing the strength of the youth development system built over recent years.

This world triumph is the result of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s ongoing strategy to develop youth football, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him. The presence of many players trained in national academies, along with talents from the Moroccan diaspora, reflects the quality of the scouting and training network established across the Kingdom.

Team captain Othmane Maamma was named Best Player of the Tournament, recognizing his pivotal role in organizing play and leading the team on the pitch.

With this historic achievement, Morocco becomes the second African nation to win the FIFA U20 World Cup, after Ghana in 2009. This victory highlights the continuous rise of Moroccan football on the international stage and reinforces the Kingdom’s image as a model for sporting development in Africa.
