Taekwondo : Farah TOUZANI strikes gold at the Women’s World Open Taekwondo Championships

Our taekwondo athlete Farah TOUZANI claimed gold in the women’s -46kg category at the 2026 Women’s World Open Taekwondo Championships, taking place in Taiyuan, China, from 28 to 30 August.

At just 19 years old and ranked 12th in the world, TOUZANI produced an exceptional run to the title, winning five consecutive bouts against a highly competitive international field.

One of the standout moments of her campaign came against the world No. 1 in the division, whom she defeated on her way to the final. TOUZANI also overcame two Chinese opponents on home soil, underlining the quality and consistency of her performance throughout the competition.

In the final, the Moroccan faced China’s Shiyi WANG, the world No. 33 and a bronze medallist at the 2025 World Championships. TOUZANI held her nerve in a closely contested encounter to secure a 2–1 victory in rounds and seal the gold medal.

The result marks another significant step forward for TOUZANI on the international stage. A year after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 World Championships in Wuxi, she returned to China to go all the way and stand on top of the podium.
