Grand Prix Lalla Meryem: Yasmine KABBAJ shines in Rabat
Yasmine KABBAJ made a strong impression at the 24th edition of the Grand Prix SAR Princess Lalla Meryem, held at the Club des Cheminots courts in Rabat, with an outstanding campaign against experienced players from the international circuit.
Backed by the support of the Moroccan crowd, the national player started her tournament with a solid straight-sets victory over Türkiye’s Berfu CENGIZ (7-6, 6-3), before producing one of the standout performances of the tournament against Germany’s Tatjana MARIA, former Wimbledon semifinalist and third seed, defeating her 6-2, 6-4.
Thanks to this result, Yasmine KABBAJ advanced to the quarterfinals in Rabat, where she delivered another strong performance against Switzerland’s Jil TEICHMANN, former world Top 25 player, in a highly competitive three-set match lasting more than three hours.
At only 22 years old, Yasmine KABBAJ continues to show steady progress on the international circuit. Currently ranked around World No. 330 — the highest ranking of her career so far — she is considered one of the most promising Moroccan players of her generation.
Her rise over the past seasons reflects this positive momentum. After gradually establishing herself on the professional circuit, the Moroccan player has achieved several important milestones across the ITF and WTA tours. Her record already includes four ITF singles titles won in Casablanca (2022 and 2023), Heraklion in Greece (2024), and Mohammedia in 2025, where she claimed the W35 title.
