Hamburg Marathon: Historic victory and national record for Othmane EL GOUMRI

Moroccan athletics made its mark at the 2026 Haspa Hamburg Marathon through the outstanding performance of Othmane EL GOUMRI, who became the first Moroccan in history to win this prestigious German race.

At the 40th edition of this major event, held on April 26 in Hamburg, more than 20,000 runners competed in the marathon itself, while the entire race weekend brought together a record 46,000 participants across all events, confirming Hamburg’s status as one of Europe’s leading marathons.

In an exceptionally competitive field, featuring ten athletes finishing under 2:06, Othmane EL GOUMRI claimed victory in 2:04:24, setting a new Moroccan national record and delivering the third-fastest time in the history of the Haspa Hamburg Marathon.

This historic triumph also places the Moroccan runner on the winners’ list of a World Athletics Gold Label event, recognized as one of the major fixtures on the international marathon calendar.
